Sir Ian Bauckham CBE has been confirmed as the Chief Regulator of Ofqual and has now started the permanent five-year position after serving as interim Chief Regulator since 1 Jan 2024. Ofqual is the independent body responsible for regulating qualifications, exams, and assessments in England. Sir Ian has called Ofqual the "guardian of standards" and said that it will protect their value and integrity of assessments to ensure they remain trusted. Sir Ian has previously served as Chair of the Board of Ofqual and has been a Board member. He was Chief Executive Officer of the Tenax Schools Academy Trust, is Chair of Oak National Academy and was knighted for services to education in January 2023.
